I always wanted to travel and have a clear, fast, simple guide that made me fully appreciate the wonders and attractions of the city. I never found it, which is why I decided to do it myself. And I’m sure you will not do without it anymore. Let’s start from the largest and most famous city in Italy: Rome. Discover the 5 best tips on how to visit Rome clicking the button below >
5. HOW TO REACH ROME
The most convenient way is definitely to arrive by train as the arrival station (Roma Termini) is in the center. There are numerous connections with the high-speed train from the main Italian cities. Consult timetables and train prices on www.trenitalia.com or on www.italotreno.it.
If you arrive by plane, the arrival airports are two: Ciampino and Fiumicino.
I strongly advise you to land in Fiumicino which is widely served by all airlines, including low cost airlines. Upon arrival at Fiumicino you will have 3 options to reach Rome
- TRAIN: Leonardo express is the train service of Trenitalia that connects Fiumicino airport to the central station of Roma Termini in just 32 minutes with non-stop connections every 15 minutes. Price: 14 euros.
- BUS: At the exit of the airport you will easily find the bus station. You can easily buy tickets on site and reach the city centre in 55 minutes. Price: 5.80 euros one way / 9 euros round trip.
- TAXI: The taxi fare from Fiumicino airport to Rome is fixed: 48 euros. If you are a group of 3/4, it is worthwhile as you will reach any point of the city, within the Aurelian walls, at a cost of about 10 euros per person. In just 25 minutes.
N.B Alitalia, for all young people in the world up to 25 years, offers very low prices at a fixed price, luggage included! Discover them clicking here
4. HOW TO MOVE AROUND ROME
The best (and most exciting) way is definitely on foot. Everything is within easy reach and the glimpses that you will be able to discover will be truly unforgettable. But it is good to list all the services that the city offers in such a way that you will not miss anything.
- METRO AND BUS: Rome has only two metro lines, the A and the B, which together with the surface services means the whole city is covered. Download the “Citymapper” app and you can easily calculate the best route by entering the departure and arrival addresses. The price of the metro / bus ticket is 1.50 euros and lasts 100 minutes. There is the possibility to make daily tickets, 48h and weekly at the respective cost of 7, 12.50 and 24 euros.
- CARSHARING and MOTOSHARING: There are several companies that allow renting real cars. These are shared cars that you find in various points in the city and you can leave them where you want. The best services are Enjoy, Car2go and Sharengo. Prices range from 0.20 euro to 0.27 euro per minute with even hourly and daily rates. You do not have to make high that you download the app of one or all of these companies, register and find the car closest to you. Same thing if you want to ride a motorcycle, download the app “ZigZag” and you’re done! 3. COSA VISITARE
You’ll never stop visiting and discovering Rome but it’s good to give you an excellent start in order for you to prioritise what you will do there.
- THE VATICAN AND VATICAN MUSEUMS: We are talking, in my opinion, of the most beautiful and richest museums in the world. It is here that you will find Michelangelo’s Last Judgment in the Sistine Chapel. The Vatican museums are in fact located in the Vatican. Visit the Cathedral of San Pietro, the largest church in the world where the pope looks over Rome every Sunday. Price of the Vatican Museums: 15 euros.
- THE COLOSSEUM: An old prophecy reads: «As long as the Colosseum exists, Rome will also exist; when the Colosseum falls, Rome will also fall; when Rome falls, the world will fall. ” We are talking about the Flavian amphitheater inaugurated in 80 d.c. Well yes, the Colosseum has 2000 years of life and is still there. It does not need descriptions. Watching it, you will see and understand everything. Entry price: 12 euros.
- TREVI FOUNTAIN: It is the symbol of sweet life, it is here that you must throw a coin: turn your back to the fountain, throw the coin and express a wish. With me it really worked! I highly recommend you visit at night, you will not find the thousands of people that are there in the day and above all the atmosphere will be that of the movie “La Dolce Vita”
- PIAZZA NAVONA: It is a Hollywood square, in fact here many films have been filmed. The advice is to visit and photograph it without sitting in the bars. Prices are really exaggerated and unfair.
- VIA CONDOTTI AND PIAZZA DI SPAGNA: Via Condotti is the most beautiful luxury shopping street in the world; going along it will take you to the majestic Piazza di Spagna. You will not believe your eyes for the beauty you will see.
- THE PINCIO AND VILLA BORGHESE: Going up the 136 steps of Piazza di Spagna you will arrive at the Pincio. It is nothing but a beautiful terrace overlooking Rome. Reach it when it is sunset time, you will give yourself one of the most romantic moments of your life. Not before having visited the adjacent park of Villa Borghese: example of the best Italian architecture and botany.
- THE ZODIACO: In the evening move away from the city to observe it from afar. Enjoy a quiet drink from what, with the Pincio, is the most beautiful terrace in Rome. You will feel like you own the whole city from this extraordinary point of view.
2. WHAT AND WHERE TO EAT?
Bucatini all’amatriciana, cacio e pepe, carbonara, gricia, Carciofi alla romana, coda alla vaccinara, l’abbacchio! These are some of the most typical dishes of tradition. I have listed just a few of my favourites. But where to eat them? We have a list with the 10 best restaurants in Rome where you eat from divinely and you spend little that you can read by clicking here

1. WHERE TO GO AND WHERE TO SLEEP?
Campo dei fiori is certainly the perfect place to spend an evening in the company of tourists and Romans! A huge square, surrounded by alleys where you will find all kinds of places: from elegant and classy places to Irish Pubs. If instead you want an exclusive rooftop, I recommend the cocktail bar of the Japanese restaurant “Zuma” at Palazzo Fendi.
