Top 5 romantic places in Palermo for an unforgettable experience
Top 5 romantic places in Palermo – The spot where the main city of Sicily stands has been inhabited ever since the dawn of times. Today, Palermo’s beauty is characterized by stark contrasts which in turn create a romantic atmosphere. Palermo is a unique place, full of history and distinctive scents. Strolling down the streets you can still see straw baskets full of greens and fruits being lifted to balconies.
One of the main characteristic of the city, all those façades in fading colors, moved Goethe’s heart to the point he wrote: “ The purity of lines, the sublime landscape with its fading tones and the harmony between sky, earth and sea. Live it all once and you won’t be able to forget for the rest of your life.” And he was right, Palermo is unforgettable thanks to its alleyways, its panoramas and sunsets. Mount Pellegrino, overlooking both the Gulf of Palermo and the Gulf of Mondello is the perfect place for lovers. Isn’t that enough? Let’s begin a tour of the five most romantic places in Palermo. 5. CASTELLO DELLA ZISA
The Zisa is a castle situated in the very center of a small park which, like all parks, offers lovers the right amount of privacy. Strolling down the park in order to reach the castle is particularly pleasant thanks to the fountain’s waters lulling effect. The perfect place where to chill out together. 4. IL PARCO DELLA FAVORITA
This park is at Mount Pellegrino’s feet. Two boulevards cut it: Diana’s boulevard and Hercules’ one, the latter leading to a fountain with a doric column at the top of which a statue representing the Greek hero stands (but this one’s a copy, the original one can be found at the National Museum of Naples). This park is lush and elegant, its decadent atmosphere will make you feel as if you were a noble in the XIX century, one of the few with the privilege of enjoying such natural beauty and maybe steal an embrace or, even better, promise each other eternal love. 3.THE RUFULIATA PATH
This path takes to the peak of Mount Pellegrino and of course, descends from it. Either way you’re going, you will behold breathtaking views, especially when the sun is setting, making of this path surrounded by nature an extremely romantic place where to be with your loved one. Every turn in the road will show you a different sight, each more beautiful the other. You won’t be able to forget the kiss you’ll share under the red sky of twilight, protected by the foliage of trees. Continue reading clicking the below button >
2. VILLA GIULIA AND BOTANICAL GARDENS
The botanical gardens surrounding Villa Giulia stretch for almost 25 acres. Luxuriant nature and neoclassical architecture such as the main colonnade and the fake ruins combines wonderfully, creating one suggestive atmosphere. The botanical gardens are home to more than 10.000 species of flowers and plants, distributed in flowerbeds along the paths. The artificial lakes blend in perfectly too, giving the impression of a very natural environment rather than a man-made one. Villa Giulia is a jewel impossible not to fall in love with. Benches decorate the park while making it even more comfortable – some of these enjoy a wonderful panorama, bringing us back in time. The sculpted fountain at the center of the park represents the Genius of Palermo, an old man holding a snake (the symbol of wisdom) and an eagle (the symbol of the city). The lights of the sunset enhance the beauty of this place to the point that one feels like floating in a parallel, magical dimension. Continue reading clicking the below button >
1. MOUNT PELLEGRINO
Goethe considered it the most beautiful promontory in the world. Indeed, it’s one of the most iconic places of the city, overlooking a magnificent, endless horizon in which the Eolie Islands and the Etna Volcano are included. Climbing up the mountain and reaching the Sanctuary of Saint Rosalia feels more like abandoning every day’s material triviality, ascending to Palermo’s holy soul. It’s easy to see why the citizens consider it more than a simple panoramic place, but a fortress protecting the city. However, admiring the sunset from here is a breathtaking experience, especially if you’re in the company of your significant other. Saint Rosalia will know whether she’s witnessing true love and, if this is the case, she will bestow the protection of her blessing.
