6.CAPANNINA DI FRANCESCHI – FORTE DEI MARMI
Probably, the most famous historic club of Italy. It is not known if it was the Capannina to detonate Forte dei Marmi as a tourist destination or vice versa. It seems to be the Capannina! Born in 1929 from an old shack on the beach, cleaned and arranged by way ‘of bar to serve drinks and pastries, its creator (Franceschi Achille) outfitted to the gramophone and tables to play cards. And it was a boom! In the last century it was the destination of many bystanders lords of Italy, including the nobles Della Gherardesca, Rucellai, Rospigliosi and Sforza, poets and intellectuals of the caliber of Repaci, Ungaretti, Montale, Levi and Pea, who used to sit at sunset and drink a Negroni on the beach of La Capannina. It is structurally almost identical to a century ago, after the restructuring as a result of a fire in 1939. Haunt of large industrials, international politicians, movie stars during the years of economic boom, was acquired in ’77 by Gherardo Guidi and his wife Carla, consolidating the image to this day.
“La Capannina di Franceschi” gave the birth to the most famous summer italian songs: “Sapore di Sale” (by Gino Paoli), “Pinne, fucile ed occhiali” (by Edoardo Vianello), Ritornerai (by Bruno Lauzi), it is the icon of an age we all think with charming melancholy. Also the greats have passed by La Capannina, like Ray Charles, Grace Jones, Gloria Gaynor, Billy Preston, Ornella Vanoni, Patty Pravo. Its success is in its formula: disco music and live show, together.
