2. VILLA GIULIA AND BOTANICAL GARDENS
The botanical gardens surrounding Villa Giulia stretch for almost 25 acres. Luxuriant nature and neoclassical architecture such as the main colonnade and the fake ruins combines wonderfully, creating one suggestive atmosphere. The botanical gardens are home to more than 10.000 species of flowers and plants, distributed in flowerbeds along the paths. The artificial lakes blend in perfectly too, giving the impression of a very natural environment rather than a man-made one. Villa Giulia is a jewel impossible not to fall in love with. Benches decorate the park while making it even more comfortable – some of these enjoy a wonderful panorama, bringing us back in time. The sculpted fountain at the center of the park represents the Genius of Palermo, an old man holding a snake (the symbol of wisdom) and an eagle (the symbol of the city).
